West Greenwich Animal Hospital welcomes you to our website!

The West Greenwich Animal Hospital is located on Route 102 in
West Greenwich, Rhode Island, near the Coventry town line.
Since opening in January of 1995, we have been happy to help
care for pets from West Greenwich, Coventry, Exeter, Foster, and

as Providence and Newport, Rhode Island, as well as
Plainfield, Connecticut.

The time for fireworks and celebrating is here, please remember to keep your pets
and children out of harms way.
Don't leave dogs outdoors when you know someone
is going to use fireworks.  The bright lights and the loud noises may frighten your dog.
Dog's ears are far more sensitive than a human's so the sound of the fireworks may
even hurt your dog's ears. Here are some helpful hints to keep you and your dog safe
and secure this Fourth of July:

  1. Crating your dog in a dark and quiet area, with his/her favorite toy may help.  Closing all
shades and doors may make your dog feel safer.

  2. Leave music playing or the tv turned on to create "normal" background noise.

  3. If you do have to leave your dog alone, make sure he/she is securely confined; some dogs
have been known to dig, chew, climb or jump through windows in a state of panic.

  4. Make sure your dog is wearing the proper identification. Even the most well mannered, calm dog
can become frightened and hysterical during a fireworks display. In the event your dog were to
get loose, identification will help him/her find their way home.

Leaving your dog at home is the best way to protect your dog!

On the other hand some firework phobias are so severe that a Veterinarian may need to help you evaluate
the situation. If your believe your dog may have a phobia to fireworks please call for an appointment
and one of our Veterinarians would be happy to decide on an appropriate behavior modification program with you.
